A 1979 graduate of North Attleboro High School , where he was a National Honor Society
student . He lettered in four sports , football (4 years) , basketball (4 years ) ,
baseball ( 3 years ) , track (1 year ) . In football , he finished his high school career
with 132 receptions for 2,346 yards and 22 touchdowns . He was all-state three years, and
was chosen to the National Football Foundation as one of 10 student-athletes in
Massachusetts . In track he was the leading point scorer his senior year . |

Mike graduated from Holy Cross in 1983 after an outstanding football career. With 113 receptions he finished 2nd all -time in receptions. Holy Cross nominated him for a Rhodes Scholarship because of his high academic standing.
He also received the National Football Foundation scholar/athlete award #(see below) in college(Top ten in division one), at a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria attended by Bob Hope, presidents- Ford and Nixon and numerous other celebrities.
After receiving his masters degree in education from Brown University he took the job of teaching social studies and coaching the Mansfield High School football team. In 1991 and 1992 during summer break he participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities project that had as its goal the rewriting of Soviet and U.S. history. With 15 history teachers from across the U.S., and 15 Soviet teachers they worked at Harvard University for four weeks in June the first summer, than spent four weeks in the former U.S.S.R the following summer. In 1994 he studied Irish history at the University of Dublin, in Ireland. In addition he has traveled to Greece, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Spain, and a two week tour of Europe(England, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Italy) For recreation he is a long distance runner, having run the Boston Marathon for 20 years, usually averaging about 3 hours. His 2001 time was 3hr 23min. On December 31 2004 Mike married Nicole Fichera of Easton, a teacher in the Mansfield school system. |

The College Football Hall of Fame is an important part of the National Football Foundation (NFF). This organization recognizes individuals who have excelled on the football field, in the classroom and in the community.
