Failed 1985 Carroll O’Connor cop vehicle circa early 80s, and pre-In
the Heat of the Night, of which it is reminiscent. O’Connor plays Chief of
New York Detectives Francis "Poncho" Nolan, a cop in the classic
tradition. A widower, the Chief lovingly suffers his housekeeper and live-in
father-in-law, gives wisdom to the young cops who assist him (including actor
O’Connor’s real-life son Hugh), and stands by old friends, including one
played by Robert Brown. Robert appears as Chief of Patrols Shannon, an old
beat cop who Nolan has known since they were kids together on the mean streets
of New York. Now Shannon stands accused of "consorting with known
criminals." Chief Nolan will have to try to save Shannon’s pension, at
the same time he’s solving a high profile murder.
