Star Trek
"The Alternative Factor" (1967)
While orbiting a planet considered "dead," the Enterprise experiences a galactic disturbance that causes Starfleet command to order Kirk to the planet’s surface. There, Kirk meets Lazarus (Robert Brown), who warns Kirk that his "enemy" caused the effect. Lazarus pleads with Kirk for the Enterprise’s dilithium crystals, to help him power the strange craft he uses to chase this enemy through time and space. Naturally, Kirk refuses, but takes the wounded Lazarus to the Enterprise. Once there, it’s obvious there is something amiss with Lazarus. He manifests wide mood swings. More puzzling, his wounds seem to disappear and reappear within moments. When Lazarus manages to steal the ship's dilithium and transport back to the planet, Kirk follows and discovers the truth. Lazarus is two people—one sane, from a universe of matter, the other insane, from an anti-matter universe. The "sane" Lazarus reveals that the two can only exist appear in either’s universe one at a time. If both men were ever to be in the same place at the same time, both universes would be destroyed. With Kirk’s help, Lazarus traps his counterpart in a time corridor where both universes are safe, but dooms the two Lazarus to a stalemate struggle through eternity.
