Why Area Coordinators are Vital to Field Operations

Dear potential partners of Brian and Heidi:

I am writing to tell you about the impact that your support of Brian and Heidi will have upon Bible translation worldwide.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Dr. Dave Beine and I am the Director of the Oregon Summer Institute of Linguistics (ORSIL), one of 13 training institutes around the world run by SIL International (a sister organization of Wycliffe Bible Translators) that Wycliffe uses to train our future Bible translators and literacy and Scripture-impact workers. My wife and I are also 15-year members of Wycliffe Bible translators working in South Asia.

My job as Director of ORSIL is to help train up the next generation of Bible translators, literacy specialists and Scripture impact workers who will be involved in carrying the good news of Jesus to the remaining Bibleless peoples of the world in the language they best understand. Over the past few years I have had the privilege to be involved in training hundreds who are now actively involved in Bible translation and related ministries in various fields all around the world.

In order to do my job effectively, however, I rely on our regional representatives to build strong relationships with the various
Christian Colleges and Universities in the region and to actively be involved in recruitment for our program. Since we are located in the Pacific Northwest (Eugene, Oregon) it is from this region that we attract the greatest number of our students. My problem is this: we currently we have no full-time Wycliffe representative serving in the Western Washington region. Actually that is not quite true. We have Brian and Heidi who are committed to this task, but are not free to serve full-time in this crucial capacity until their needed monthly support is promised.

This is only one aspect of the Wycliffe world that the Curnutts will be impacting through their involvement as regional representatives. I think you have already heard from a field member about the impact that their involvement at home will have on the field. I offer another view of how important the role is that Brian and Heidi have agreed to fill.

Would you please consider helping the Brian and Heidi reach their goal in developing the needed partnership team? They will then be freed up to be a bigger asset to me, which will in turn  help me to train up many others to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth through the vital ministries of Bible translation, literacy and Scripture impact. They are a critical link in the chain.

Serving Together,

Dave Beine, Ph.D.
Director,
The Oregon Summer Institute of Linguistics

I’m happy to endorse Brian and Heidi Curnutt as Area Coordinators of Wycliffe Bible Translators.  I’ve been with Wycliffe for 43 years, coming home to the Northwest for furloughs.  Brian and Heidi and their children recently participated in a one-week course in which I taught and we lived next door to one another.

Our Area representatives contact students and schools, youth groups and churches so that there will be another generation of people going overseas!  They help keep the light for missions burning here at home.  They generate prayer as well as giving and going.  They give people access to news of Wycliffe’s work worldwide through films, books, videos and a variety of courses.  They work with churches to host our Dinner Theater.  They set up a one-week course called Total it Up!, a great introduction to our work for those seriously considering joining Wycliffe.

When we who serve overseas are home we can participate in some of the activities that the Area Representative has already helped churches plan.  We just step in and teach a module….and get refreshed ourselves as we interact with young people who are serious about serving Jesus Christ.  They encourage us if we are down, help us get more prayer support and sometimes financial support.  They are here for us and here for churches, and here for young people called to missions, and here mostly for God.

I hope you will be behind them with your prayers and your support in friendship and gifts!

Sincerely,

Marge Crofts, Translator Consultant
