Meeting Memo

The David Hill Chapter meets on the fourth Saturday of each month.  The Chapter takes a summer hiatus from June to August.  Unless otherwise notified, the meetings always start at 10:00 a.m.  Outings to state functions, parades, or special chapter activities are announced well in advance to give all members, prospective members, or guests who wish to, the ability to attend.

Veteran's Corner

Millie O'Connor, Service to Veterans Committee Chairman, is always planning for ways to better serve the veterans in our community.  David Hill looks for any service opportunities or veteran focused celebrations to which we can give our support.  Support of the Portland Veterans Hospital, Veteran's day parades and Veteran's memorial celebrations are just a few of the opportunites we have to support the veterans in our community.

Education and Scholarship

The Education and Scholarship Committee Chairman, Janice Heckethorne, sends yearly information to local schools to notify them of some of the NSDAR's education and scholarship opportunities.  This packet also gives the schools information about the Good Citizen Contest and the Essay Contests sponsored by NSDAR.  The judging committee sends chapter winners on to the State level for further competition and possible recognition and scholarship awards at the National level.

Flag of the United States of America

Our Flag of the United States of America Committee Chairman, Mary Ellen Holmes, has a great deal of experience, knowledge about, and love for our country's flag.  As a past State Committee Chairman for Flag of the United States of America, she gives a wealth of help and information about our flag.  Mrs. Holmes nominates community organizations or members for special certificates when they show exemplary handling of the American flag.  She also works hard to facilitate donation of American flags to worthy community organizations.

Genealogy

David Hill Chapter and NSDAR is all about genealogy and family history.  David Hill has three specially trained Volunteer Genealogists, and general members who are happily willing to help those wishing to research their family history for membership in NSDAR.  We sponsor a public Genealogy Workshop in our community every year, and we can help individuals by appointment.
