From Veggie Girl 7/21/2009
Hi, my story started when I was a kid... I never really knew or understood what the meat was on my plate. I knew
corn grew, and carrots and other vegetables. It's just that the meat never really came from any place I understood.
Anyway when I asked - no one ever gave me a straight answer either - I guess as a kid I became suspicious. I never trusted
meat afterwards.
When I became a teenager - we went to a farm for a class outting. Some of the other kids knew about (and even saw)
how chickens were killed. They told me about it - I guess I was 13 or 14... and it just hit me that the animals were
actually killed for the meat - I really don't know what I was thinking before that. I just was never really told about it.
No wonder.
From then on I refused to eat the meat - sometimes my mother would refuse to feed me anything unless I ate the meat.
I'd go to bed hungry instead. After a while, she just let me eat what I wanted to.
So I was a vegetarian till 4 years ago or so, when a friend gave me a website to look at how they kill animals.
And it told about how chickens are kept and cows - to make milk and eggs. I didn't want to make animals go through
that either. Besides, milk and cheese usually got me sick anyway. So I became vegan, except for wearing the
leather things I already had... being that I don't have a job yet, and can't afford to replace them.
And that's how my vegan story happened. Thanks
