My P15 Experiences

As I mentioned before, I purchased my first P15 when I was 18 years old, way back in 1979.  I thought that car was ancient at the time, but of course it was only 31 years old at the time.  Now I own a 47 Plymouth and though it's nearly 60 years old, it doesn't seem quite so old as that 48 did back in high school.  I'VE GOT TO FIND A PICTURE OF ME WITH THAT OLD COUPE!!

I graduated from Bishop Diego High School in Santa Barbara back in `79.  My wife, Lydia and I (we graduated together) left for college at Chico State University soon after.  Unfortunately, I had to give up the two P15s I owned at the time.

After two years at Chico, I took a job with a large property management firm and temporarily left school.  We moved back to Santa Barbara in 1984 so that I could take a position with the family investment firm.  I remained with the family business until 1987 when I decided to open my own real estate office in Santa Maria.  So, my wife, two children (Hector and Danica) and I moved to Santa Maria that year.

After eight years of real estate sales, I decided to go back to college and complete my degree in Business Administration.  I entered Cal Poly San Luis Obispo that year and completed my degree in 1994.  While at Cal Poly, I fell in love with education and decided to enter a teaching credential program.  By mid `95 I had completed my credential program early and landed a job teaching Business Education at Righetti High School in Santa Maria.  I then completed Masters Degrees in Educational Administration and Curriculum Development.

While in Santa Barbara, Lydia had completed her bachelors degree in Spanish Literature.  She entered Cal Poly's Master's program in Education with and emphasis in Guidance and Counseling.  She had taken a job as a Counseling Assistant when we first moved to Santa Maria, and was hired as a full Counselor after earning her Masters.

So, as you can see, education is a really big part of our lives.

What's New?

After finishing the painstaking restoration, I finally had a chance to enter my P15 in a few car shows.  R.K. took second at the popular Wheels N Waves car show in Santa Barbara this April and took a First at the first annual Allan Hancock College car show last month.  Additionally, I was asked to participate in the dedication ceremony of the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital parking structure.  The ceremony featured cars from throughout the decades that Cottage Hospital has been serving patients.  Quite a nice collection of cars were present and the event was a blast.

The next big event in store is the upcoming Plymouth Owners Club Spring National which will be held in my hometown of Santa Maria!!!  I am currently the Golden State Region POC President and I'm honored to host such a great event right here in my backyard.  Activities will begin on Wed. May 9th and continue through Sunday May 13th.  Car judging will take place on Saturday May 12th.  For more information, visit the Golden State Region website at:  http://goldenstate.ply33.com/index.php
