Welcome
to Moneta Obscura!
"Moneta": a
coin
"Obscura": dark,
unknown
This
site is devoted to the joy of collecting ancient coins.
We feature some rare Greek silver "fractions" -
the tiny coins that were used by the "common people" in
the 5th and 4th centuries B.C. for local trade and commerce.
Here,
you will find information about ancient coins, including
their history and places of minting, as well
as photos of our virtual coin collection.
The
Ancient
Coin Gallery is the main
section of this site, but be sure to check out the
others, including Articles
and Publications,
News and Events, and
our very useful Message
Board and Links
sections.
Some
of the coins you see here may be available for
you to buy or trade for your own collection. If
you are looking for something in particular, feel free
to ask. Also, let us know if you have items
to sell or trade.
We will be updating this site frequently,
so check back often!
