The DeTomaso Pantera, S/N 1288, is one of the rare "pushbutton" cars. Only the first 75 Panteras originally
imported to the U.S., starting with S/N 1286, had the pushbutton doors (ref "Panteras for the Road" by H. Rasmussen). There
were European Panteras that preceeded the U.S. cars, however the U.S. cars benefited from an extensive factory upgrade
program run by Ford. This is described in detail in Wallace Wyss' book, DETOMASO - The Man and the Machines
(available at the Pantera International Bookstore). These cars have a unique place in the history of the DeTomaso Pantera.
The original owner sold me this car in 1986. It looks original from the outside with all the correct pieces for this
model (e.g. flat decklid, one piece window molding, single slot wheels, steel vs. plastic trim, etc.). But despite the
outwardly stock appearance there have been a number of upgrades. For a closer look at the various areas of
the car click on the links above.
March '04 News - S/N 1288 is sold. Now winning on the show circuit in CO and enjoyed on the road!
