Preparatory Assignment #2:

Sometimes it's easier to take a small scene and work on it rather than to go for a whole new adventure.

Scene A:

Post  'Absolute Power'.  Challenger tries to explain to the others just what happened to him.

Scene B:

It was a 5-day trip from the treehouse to the valley in 'Paradise Found'.  What happened during the other 4 days on the way there?  Did Veronica ever explain to the others about Sinta and Talibo?  Did she wonder how Sinta ended up with her mother’s locket?  And what was the relationship between Veronica and Marguerite during the trip?

Scene C:

Post 'Prodigal Father'.  How did Challenger, Summerlee and the others deal with the knowledge that they had so easily been turned into killers when they were drugged?

Take one of the above scenes and write it up in whatever genre, perspective and person you'd like.  Use as few or as many characters as you want.  Maximum 1000 words.  Think about how the characters would react, speak, behave.  Are they consistent with the show?  Is there something that works really well?  Something that doesn’t feel right?  Too much talk and not enough action?  To much action without resolution?

We’ll use the scenes to talk about characterization, writing action and dialogue and beta reading.

For people who are willing to go public with their writing, we’ll hand the scenes around on Saturday and have a group discussion about what works and what doesn’t, and how beta readers can best help.

And the bravest of the brave can even publish their work on this site.
