Leadership
Insights Newsletter - Issue #1 |

Personal Thoughts From
Larry Welcome to the first edition of Leadership Insights. The purpose
of this monthly newsletter is to provide clients, leaders, and friends with insights and ideas that will help them continue
to take their leadership and business skills to the next level. I am also hoping that you will take the time to provide me with ideas of what you would like to
see in future newsletters.
For example, one idea I'm considering is to periodically
pick a leader in our community and interview them so that you can get to know them better and learn more about different leadership
styles. Call or send me an email with your thoughts on this idea, who you would like to see interviewed, and what questions
you would like me to ask them. Each
newsletter will have five sections. They are:
- Leadership Is - Focuses
on skills and traits of great leaders
- "Dream Team" Culture Building -
Focuses on building high performing organizational cultures
- On The Move - Focuses on
program updates and upcoming programs
- Business Tips -
Focuses on business tips from the different resources I read each month
- Quotes - For those of you
who enjoy quotes as much as I do
Your feedback will help shape
the future content of this newsletter. Please contact me with any questions, comments, and suggestions. I would also appreciate
it if you would forward this newsletter to people you know who can gain from it.
Thanks for reading my newsletter and I'll see you next month. ~ Larry

| LEADERSHIP IS ... |
|
For the next ten months we will be looking at 10 Traits of a Great
Leader. All of the 10 traits fall directly in line with the 3 essential personal competencies for effective leadership. They
are:
- To know yourself
- To develop a clear vision and be able to communicate it to others
- To connect with and influence others
Leadership Trait
#1
"Great leaders know who they really are, what they really want in their
professional and personal life, and why they want it. They recognize the importance of having a clear set of personal and
business values to measure their choices against and they know their strengths and weaknesses and how to use them both in
positive ways."
The trait of self-clarity supports the first personal competency,
which it to know yourself. To support this trait with my executive coaching clients, they have the opportunity to go through
a process of determining their top 5 unique strengths, top 5 personal values, top 5 personal needs, a personal mission statement,
and to examine any self defeating behaviors or habits that might be holding them back from being the very best they can be
in both their professional and personal lives.
The result is that as
they come to understand more about what personally motivates and inspires them, and it provides them with a new set of personal
decision-making tools. As a result, they also come to understand more about what motivates and inspires the people they lead.
To assist you in gaining more clarity about your leadership strengths, go
to the Client Resource page on my website www.NextLevelAchievement.com, and click on the Unique Strengths Information link to find more information about discovering
your top 5 unique strengths.

| "DREAM TEAM" CULTURE BUILDING |
| |
Let me
pose a question to you...
Have you ever dreamed about what the "perfect team" for your organization would look like?
You know, YOUR dream team. How would they act, communicate, and perform?
To develop your dream team you must
look at the culture of your organization. Your organizational culture is the personality of your organization. It's shaped
by the leadership, the shared values, the beliefs, the mission, and the vision. It is what determines how people will act,
communicate, make decisions, and solve problems.
Over the next few months, this section of the newsletter will look
at the necessary steps for creating an organization made up of your "Dream Team". Those steps are:
- Developing clarity about the Mission, Values, and Vision
- Determining what you want the culture to look like
- Assessing what the culture currently looks like
- Creating a plan of action to transform the culture from where it is today to where you want it. This must include the
development of a common language
- Presenting that plan to all of the stakeholders
- Integrating the desired culture throughout the organization
- Supporting the culture by reviewing the interviewing and hiring process
- Reinforcing the desired culture through the employee review process
- Creating a process that integrates new employees into the desired culture
- Celebrating a culture made up of happy, productive, engaged employees
Dream Team Program Step #1 - This edition of the newsletter begins with the first
step. That is developing clarity about the Mission, Values, and Vision of your organization. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I have them in writing?
- Are they communicated to all of my employees?
- If so, how am I communicating them?
- How often are they discussed?
- Do my employees buy-in to them?
A definition for Mission is - The
mission describes why you exist from your customer's point of view. It defines your product or service, who you serve and
where you serve them.
A definition for the Values is - The values describe
how you do your work, the standards of quality, the ethics of your organization, the guiding principles, and the character
of the company.
A definition for the Vision is - The Vision describes your
ideal for what the business will look like in ___ number of years in a measurable way.
Of course, it isn't always that
simple. That is why I have developed a process to guide organizations through the creation or review of all three of these.
They are critical because they become the guiding light for the direction of the organization and for making decisions.
In
the next newsletter, we will look at step #2 of the Building a Dream Team program.

| ON THE MOVE |
|
I am putting together 3 new programs for business and community leaders.
If you are interested in any of these, have constructive feedback on them, or thoughts on other groups you would like to see
started, please contact me.
#1 - Strategic Business Planning Group
The Strategic
Business Planning Group is being created as a result of the experience gained from the three-hour "1 Page Business Plan" Program
that I do for groups. This program gets very high ratings but participants always say that they wished there would have been
a lot more time so that they could actually walk out with a completed plan.
As
a result, I am putting together a group of 10 to 12 business owners/executives who will attend a 1½ day program that will
enable them to walk out with a completed 1 Page Business Plan. Much of the work will be done in small groups so that each
person in the group will gain insight into their fellow group member's businesses.
We
will then meet for ½ day each month for 10 months to talk about challenges and opportunities that are coming up while implementing
the plan and to share experiences and ideas that will help each other. This will be your opportunity to block out time every
month to look at your business from a strategic perspective, you will be supported by peers who will know your business, and
they will be able to help you 'think outside of your box' in order to create new possibilities and solutions.
#2 Leadership Insights Program
The
second group is a leadership development group. This group will meet for one day each month to study my leadership curriculum.
Each meeting day will be devoted to one leadership topic and will include practice time for each skill. At the end of the
day there will be an assignment to practice for the next four weeks until the next meeting. In-between the monthly meetings,
there will be a teleconference call to discuss how the assignment is going and how to overcome any roadblocks that have come
up while practicing that assignment.
At the end of the ten month program,
a person will not just have "learned" more about leadership skills and principles, they will also have integrated those skills
as part of who they are as a leader.
#3 Human Resource
Professionals Advisory Group
The third group will be for Human Resource professionals
and will be focused on giving them a place to share challenges, opportunities, and experiences with their peers. It will meet
once a month for three hours and will be specifically for full time professionals whose sole role is as a Human Resource professional
at their organization.
Other "On The Move" News
I just had the opportunity to do my "10 Traits of a Really Great Leader" keynote speech for the Florida Association
of Medical Staff Services at their state convention in Cocoa Beach. They were a wonderful group of 140 professionals who I
really enjoyed getting to work with. As many of you know, this is my favorite keynote speech to give because it focuses on
all of us stepping forward in our lives as courageous and passionate leaders.
If
you are part of a group who is looking for a speaker, take a look at the Keynote Speaking page on my website at www.NextLevelAchievement.com.

delivery by:

"Leadership is a glorious adventure
that enables us to magnify our impact on the world."
Tom Peters
"Leadership is the challenge to be something
more than "average". It is about looking to make your group, organization, community, and even the world a better place. It's
being true to your vision, passion, and character. And, it's about doing the right thing, even when it's not popular."
