Leadership Insights Newsletter, Issue #4 |
|
Personal
Thoughts From Larry Welcome to the fourth edition of Leadership Insights, and I apologize
for the span of time between newsletters. I had some challenges that needed to be addressed over the last couple of months
and this newsletter is one of the projects that got moved further down the priority list during that time.
The purpose of this periodic newsletter is to provide clients,
leaders, and friends with insights and ideas that will help them continue to take their leadership and business skills to
the next level.
Thanks for reading our newsletter and I look forward to any questions, comments,
and suggestions that you have. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to people who you think may gain from it.

| LEADERSHIP IS ... |
For
the next few newsletters we will continue to look at 10 Traits of a Great Leader. All of the 10 traits fall directly in line
with the 3 essential personal competencies for effective leadership. They are:
1.
To know yourself 2. To develop
a clear vision and be able to communicate it to others 3.
To connect with and influence others
Our
Last edition focused on Trait #3 which is: "Great Leaders walk their talk and do as they say they'll do.
They live their life with integrity and inspire trust. They lead their organizations with ethics and
by always trying to do "the right thing"."
Leadership
Trait #4
"Great Leaders are curious and
lifelong learners. They are always searching for a better way. They see 'problems' as opportunities with new possibilities
and they know the importance of setting the example for accepting and initiating change. When there is a difficult change,
they use their resilience to quickly bounce back, recover, and re-focus with an optimistic attitude."
Think about the people you know who you consider to be great
leaders. Most of us think of someone who we consider wise. They may have gained much of their knowledge through their victories,
challenges, and failures. The lessons they learned about what works and what doesn't work brings valuable knowledge to the
organizations they lead. And those leaders who pay attention to learning lessons from all of their personal experiences are
typically also leaders who believe in creating what we will call "Learning Organizations."
I read an article years ago that said that "A learning organization is deliberately
designed to encourage everyone in it to keep thinking, innovating, collaborating, talking candidly, improving their capabilities,
making personal commitments to their collective future, and thereby increasing the firm's long-term competitive advantage."
In today's quickly changing world this is even more important.
Without innovation, any organization will quickly lose out to their "competitors". |

| "DREAM TEAM" CULTURE BUILDING
|
|
Our last newsletter
looked at the third step for developing your "Dream Team." That step was: Assess your current employee culture.
This edition we are looking at Step #4... Create your 'Culture Plan of Action'.
The Culture Plan of Action provides the action steps for creating and supporting your desired
employee culture. It is designed to build on team strengths, while also addressing challenges that showed up in the employee
happiness survey.
The Culture Plan of Action should contain success measurements
and concentrate on developing an employee culture that focuses on looking for what's right, being appreciative of fellow team
members, and developing a high level of accountability throughout the team.
If
you have any questions about how to create a Culture Plan of Action for your organization, just give me a call. In our next
newsletter we will look at the fifth step that is critical for creating your Dream Team.

| ON THE MOVE |
|
Since the last newsletter I had the opportunity to work
with 4 new clients. One was for creating a strategic 1 Page Business Plan. One is for the Dream Team Program. One was for
a Communications/Team Building program. And, one was for preparing for a job interview for their dream job.
In addition,
I did a presentation on The Language of Accountability at the Non Profit Resource Forum, a 10 Top Tips for Great Communications
workshop at the Florida Creativity Conference, an all-staff retreat for a client, an innovative performance review process
for a client and his staff, and worked with Jim Paluch to present a program about using the LEAN process to create significant
bottom-line results in organizations of all sizes.
If you are part of a group who is looking for a speaker or
workshop presenter, please have them take a look at the Keynote Speaking page on my website at www.NextLevelAchievement.com.
