Radio Scouting is the combination of amateur radio and scouting. Both amateur radio and scouting started
in the early 1900's and early scouting units took pride in demonstrating "Wireless Telegraphy". This is a very natural
"marriage" since both "movements" emphasize public service, personal development, advancement and international goodwill.
By combining scouting skills, amateur radio abilities with emergency management training Crew 800 is a valuable resource
for our community during special events, disaters and other emergencies.

Crew 800 couples high adventure outdoors and public service activities with amateur radio. Chartered to the Yucaipa
Valley Amateur Radio Club, members of Crew 800 have the opportunity to earn their amateur radio licenses and operate
radios and other communications equipment. Members of Crew 800 can communicate at events and from locations where telephone
service (wired and wireless) are not available or practical.
Today amateur radio allows cubs, scouts, venturers, explorers and rovers all over the world to contact each other and
share in the fellowship of world scouting without the travel or logistical issues. The annual Jamboree on the Air (JOTA)
is scheduled to allow scouts all over the world the opportunity to contact each other and share their unique scouting and
cultural experiences via amateur radio.
