People of all ages practice Tae Kwon Do for many reasons.  As a form of self defense, this method is unbeatable.  A practitioner learns how to place forceful kicks and punches that result in the disarming of an attacker.

As an exercise, Tae Kwon Do strengthens and stretches almost every muscle of the body.  On the advanced level, the workout inherently contains an aerobic component.  Beginners start slowly with a thorough stretching warm-up with a gradual increase in the amount of exercise.

For those who desire competition, the studio regularly attends tournaments all over the country.  In past years Black Belts and lower belts have won first, second and third place trophies at the tournaments in Kansas, Iowa, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York.

A side benefit of the practice of Tae Kwon Do is the lesson of self discipline that each student eventually must realize.  Practicing Tae Kwon Do is akin to practicing a musical instrument:  the basics must be learned, practiced, fine tuned, practiced, retuned, and practiced again until the body can perform them automatically.  Obviously, the more one practices the more one gains.

Tae Kwon Do consist of kicks, punches, forms (routine movements), and hand techniques.  At the advanced level, students learn to free spar, which is the actual fighting component.  Also, as one practices, the artful beauty, the intellectual challenge and the thrill of Tae Kwon Do become evident.

The name of this school is Chung Do Kwan.  We are direct descendants through Master Choi of the Chung Do Kwon school in Seoul, Korea, that school was the first martial arts studio in Korea and was founded by Grandmaster Won Kuk Lee over 50 years ago.

We, the students, cannot really express our pride in our teacher, Master Duk Kyung Choi.  As a teacher, he is indeed a master.  In fact, no one matches his ability to teach the physical body and to challenge the practitioner's mind.  He is one of the few masters who still practices what he teaches and who was a champion during his years as a student and instructor at the main school in Seoul, Korea.  In addition to our pride is an abiding love and profound respect for Master Choi.  Perhaps our deepest feeling, however, is gratitude.
