Welcome to the Reiki Zone!
On
this home page, we'll introduce you to an energy healing method called Reiki.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced 'ray kee') means universal energy. The method of healing
using Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui (1856-1926) in Japan and is now practiced by millions of people around the world.
The universal energy is channeled through the practitioners' hands and is passed on to re-awaken the natural healing process
in others. We are all born with the ability to channel Reiki. It is through time that our connection to this gift
gets weakened. It was Mrs. Hawayo Takata (1900-1980), a Japanese American born in Hawaii, who initiated the spread of
Reiki to the United States and eventually throughout the western world.
About Jikiden Reiki
The word, Jikiden, means "directly transmitted" in Japanese.
The original Reiki school started by Mikao Usui still exists in Japan. It remains as a closed organization and does
not open to public. Mrs. Takata's teacher, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, was a student of Mikao Usui. He was also a naval
doctor. One of his students, Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi, had been practicing the original form and style of Reiki for
sixty-five years in Japan before she died. She and her son, Mr. Tadao Yamaguchi, were discovered by some western Reiki
Masters who went there to teach Reiki in Japan. The Yamaguchis realized that Reiki had become quite different since
spreading to the West - although the founder, Mrs. Takata - had also learned directly from Dr. Hayashi.
Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi and her son Mr. Tadao Yamaguchi wanted to preserve the healing
system that directly passed down from Dr. Hayashi. In order to do that they set up the Jikiden Reiki Institute with
the purpose of keeping the original teachings of Mikao Usui and Chujiro Hayashi alive.
