Sorry about the quality of this photo, it's the only one I have. This is
the first drag car I got involved with. I crewed on it for a couple of years. It's a 1963 Plymouth Belvedere AFX
with the aluminum front end. On seven inch wide cheater slicks which todays radials are probably better at hooking up
with. the best ET was 11.55 seconds at 122 mph. Wish I had that car now, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

In 1990, I took the 1679 cc engine out of my '73 Karmann Ghia and put it into Jerry
& Wes Coppens 1958 Ghia. I think this car used to be raced by Steve Tims and was called the "Mean Machine".
If you have any history on this car let me know. Best ET was 12.65 at 105 mph. At a NHRA Division 6 race in Medford,
OR, I missed winning a Wally by four thousands of a second. Of course I was the only VW there much less being a Karmann
Ghia. That race was also the hottest race I've ever been to. It was 113 for two days and the windows didn't roll
down. In 1991 I went back to racing my own car.

Jim Cooley of Thousand Oaks, CA owns this dragster. Power is by a bored and
stroked 375 c.i. small blk. Chevy. It is on injected alcohol. A Powerglide tranny with a trans break goes
to a Chysler 8 3/4 rearend. Best ET that I drove it to was 8.50 at 158 mph. Best sixty footer was a 1.20 second.
Great ride !
