Here's my recipe for all-natural dog chewies that are low-cost, non-toxic, won't stain upholstery or carpeting, are
completely digestible and will help clean dogs' teeth, have lots of Vitamin A, and are loaded with natural anti-oxidants.
These chewies are completely vegan, in that they contain no animal products whatsoever. They are a nice alternative snack
for dogs who are sensitive to corn, wheat, wheat gluten or soy.
Recipe for YES-EYE-YAMS!
Ingredients:
several pounds of sweet potatoes
white vinegar
Equipment:
multi-tray electric food dehydrator
mandolin, knife or other slicing device
French fry cutter (optional)
Select whole sweet potatoes to suit the desired finished chewies. Large, roundish sweet potatoes slice into 1/4-inch- to
3/8-inch-thick flat slabs.
Long, narrow sweet potatoes pass through the French fry cutter more easily to make FRAP-FRIES. ;-D
Soak cut pieces of sweet potatoes for 20 to 30 minutes in cool, fresh water acidulated with white vinegar. Pat pieces dry
with paper towel and place in single layer in each of the trays of a pre-warmed dehydrator. Check trays after 24 hours and
remove any thoroughly dry pieces. Large and thick pieces might take two or three days in the dehydrator to dry completely.
Allow entire batch to dry before reloading dehydrator.
Store dried YES-EYE-YAMS and FRAP-FRIES in zip-lock bags at room temperature. Give daily to good dogs and special puppies,
even if they aren't lucky enough to be corgis.
