Reception

When you enter our reception area, you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff who will prepare your pet's health records for your visit. Because you and your pet are our chief concern, our hospital is fully computerized and utilizes advanced veterinary software. This allows us to keep your pet's medical records up-to-date and automatically send out vaccination, Wellness Program and medical follow-up reminders, and other healthcare information. While in our reception area, be sure to check out the many pet care brochures we have available or watch our videos.

Preventive Medicine

The old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is true. We believe that preventive medicine is the key to a longer, healthier life for your pet, and the medical examination is the foundation of any preventive healthcare program. That is why every pet that enters our hospital receives a complimentary nurses' wellness exam. Our veterinary health care team will establish a Wellness Program specifically designed to promote your pet's wellness by detecting problems before they become serious. During all of our wellness and comprehensive annual physical examinations, our findings are entered in your pet's computerized records.

Our Wellness Programs include:

Comprehensive Annual Physical Examinations
Immunization Protocols
Internal and External Parasite Control
Heartworm Testing and Prevention
Dental Care
Blood Screening and Blood Workups
Exercise
Grooming
Nutritional Guidance
Behavior Management
Microchip Identification Implants
Spaying and Neutering

Diagnostic and Treatment Center

Our emphasis is on preventive medicine; however, should your pet become ill or injured, we routinely perform advanced diagnostic workups and treatment. Our hospital diagnostic and treatment center is well equipped, including a full diagnostic laboratory with sophisticated equipment, X-ray, EKG, dental ultrasound cleaning system, and a MedRx Video VetScope System. In-house ultrasound is available through a Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist.

If you are on a tight schedule, you have the option of our convenient Patient Drop-Off Service allowing early morning drop off and after work pickup, as needed. To avoid delays when dropping off your pet, please fill out the Patient Drop-Off Form and bring it with you between 7:30 and 8:30a.m.

In-Patient Care

If your pet should have to stay with us for treatment or surgery, our skilled caregivers will make your pet's hospital visit as pleasant as possible, send you home with detailed aftercare instructions, and continue to monitor your at-home progress until your pet has completely recovered. Our recovery area is strategically placed in the treatment center so that patients can be closely monitored. Surgical or ill patients will be assigned to a caregiver who will be your hospital contact. The caregiver will personally care for your pet, keep you notified of your pet's progress, and provide follow-up contact after your pet leaves the hospital. Your pet's pain level will be monitored closely and appropriate pain medication will be given. While in the hospital, our patients are made as comfortable as possible, with warm sleeping pads and soothing pet music. When appropriate, family visits are welcomed to encourage your pet and speed the recovery process.

Surgery

Our surgical suite is equipped to handle minor and major surgeries, including orthopedic, soft tissue and elective surgeries. We use the latest anesthetic protocol, including both sevoflurane and isoflurane, and tailor the anesthesia to the individual pet's age and condition. We also use a state-of-the-art, veterinary-specific diagnostic and monitoring system, which includes vital signs monitoring, body temperature management, ECG, noninvasive blood pressure, and digital telemetry monitoring, during anesthesia and in post-op or critical care patients. Our in-house laboratory allows us to provide same-day pre-surgical blood screenings on all surgical patients, thus eliminating an extra trip to the hospital. We recommend these tests allowing us to identify and grade pre-existing conditions that could increase the risk during surgery. Our doctors and staff stay current on the latest medical advancements through continuing education and on-line networking with veterinary specialists in every field. In addition, our relationship with veterinary specialists and consultants allows us to provide many in-house, advanced surgical and diagnostic procedures so that our patients often do not have to go to another facility for special needs.

Laser Surgery

We are one of only a few hospitals offering laser surgery. The precision and versatility of laser surgery raises the standard of care we can provide for your pet. Lasers seal the nerve endings as they are cut, leaving no raw, exposed nerve endings. This means less pain, less medication, and a quicker recovery. Blood vessels are quickly severed and sealed by the laser beam, which means less blood loss. The laser's intense beam energy sterilizes tissues as it is used, reducing the possibility of infection after surgery. There is also no bruising, crushing or tearing of the surrounding tissues which reduces the amount of swelling. Surgical lasers are used for a wide variety of general surgical applications.

Dentistry

Dental disease is the #1 disease in pets. By the age of three, 90% of dogs and cats have periodontal disease. Good dental health is vital to the well being of your pet's overall health. Bacteria from a poorly maintained mouth can enter the bloodstream causing infections and serious damage to the liver, kidneys and heart valves. A yearly dental examination should be included in your pet's healthcare. During our examination, your pet's teeth and gums will be graded and recommendations made. We provide dental ultrasound cleaning, polishing, extractions and follow-up home dental care instructions.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is one of the most important diagnostic tools available today. This non-invasive equipment allows us greater diagnostic capabilities of many internal organs, including the heart, abdomen, kidneys, liver, prostate or uterus, urinary bladder, and eyes. We are able to see the organs in detail, far beyond what an x-ray allows. It is safe for even older or traumatized pets, often requiring only a mild tranquilizer. A Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist performs the tests and reads all results.

MedRx Video VetScope System

One of the most powerful diagnostic/therapeutic imagining systems available in veterinary medicine today is our MedRx Video VetScope System. Some of the uses of this system include enabling us to better diagnose and treat ear infections or blockages, pinpoint dental or throat conditions, or identify rectal or genital/urinary tract problems that might not otherwise be seen. It is also useful in dermatology and cytology exams and treatment. The endoscopic hand piece is actually a tiny, color digital camera connected to a tapered probe. This allows us to visually examine and treat your pet. Through the channel in the hand piece, we can remove small tumors and polyps, apply medication directly to the source of the problem, and record the images on a disk or color photo for your viewing. This allows you to "see what we are seeing."
One of the most frequent and difficult problems seen in pets today is chronic ear infection. The MedRx allows us to thoroughly examine the deep horizontal ear canal, properly diagnosis the problem, and flush and treat the ear effectively.

Radiology

Our X-ray department is equipped to assess many orthopedic and soft tissue problems. We also are able to evaluate hip dysplasia and other conditions and send X-rays for OFA certification. We are able to consult with a board certified radiologist for further evaluation as needed.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care has been shown to be effective in treating problems with the muscles, joints and nerves. It can be useful in treating injuries from falls and jumping, pain associated with hip dysplasia, lameness, leg or neck pain, back pain and paralysis due to intervertebral disc disease, sciatica and sensitivity to touch. It is important for any chiropractor treating animals to understand the differences in quadruped anatomy, physiology and pathology before undertaking animal chiropractic. That is why we provide chiropractic care from a doctor who is not only a licensed Chiropractor, but also a licensed Veterinarian. Chiropractic care to our patients is available on an appointment only basis.

Laboratory

Our in-house diagnostic laboratory allows us to do most diagnostic work immediately; thus obtaining faster diagnosis and treatment for your pet. Tests we can perform in-house include CBC, blood chemistry, internal parasite analysis, infectious disease testing (such as feline leukemia testing, feline immunodeficiency virus testing, heartworm testing, etc.), skin scrapping, fungal culture, and urinalysis. We employ the services of an outside veterinary pathology laboratory for specialized tests and tissue pathology.

Pharmacy

We have a fully stocked in-house pharmacy and can usually fill your pet's medications while you are still in the exam room. Refills can be phoned in and picked up at a specified time. For special situations, we also utilize a pharmacy that formulates specific medications for your individual pet's prescription needs. Or, if you prefer, you may order many medicines through VetStore, our online pharmacy, and have them delivered to you through the mail.

Pet Food and Supplies

We carry a selection of prescription diets and supplies for your pet, including Hill's Prescription Diets, heartworm prevention, flea and tick preventives, nutritional supplements, dental care, and skin care and grooming products. You may also order many pet supplies and foods through our online VetStore.

With VetStore you can shop just as you would with any online pharmacy, with one IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE. Your veterinarian and staff at Guardian Pet Hospital have full knowledge of your pet's medical history and because we put your pet's health first, we work with VetStore to ensure that your medicine is right and the dose is right. We have chosen VetStore as our online store because we trust them to provide our clients with the highest quality products. Unlike most online pet medicine stores who will not divulge the purchasing source of their veterinary specific products, VetStore buys their products directly from the manufacturer and is able to pass that manufacturer's guarantee on to you, the purchaser. This includes the guarantee reimbursement programs for many veterinary products. You may choose from hundreds of products, including prescription medications, preventives, therapeutic diets and many over the counter products, and have them delivered directly to your door.

Kennel/Boarding

Our hospital ward contains top-of-the-line stainless steel kennels for our smaller and medium sized patients, and two large indoor fiberglass runs for larger dogs. Warm bedding and soothing pet music provide a quiet, healing atmosphere. Scheduled family visits are arranged for pets needing encouragement. Pets can bring their own special bed, blankets, food, treats, and/or favorite toys if desired. We want pets to feel as much at home as possible so that they can heal faster. All animals entering the kennel must be up-to-date on required vaccines. We also provide boarding for small animals, as space permits.

Thank you for allowing us to be your Pet’s Family Doctor.
