Two decades later, I saw some orchid plants for sale at the Home Depot. I bought a few and set about learning all I could about them. They are not at all difficult to grow if one has an understanding of their needs.

Similar to those in my wedding bouquet.

On our vacation to Hawaii in 2003, we stopped by a large nursery for orchids. I bought some more and had them shipped home. Some of the plants were quite small and have not bloomed for me yet. One of them got knocked down by a wagging tail and subsequently was mauled, so it died. The others are going strong and blooming prolifically. The most challenging thing about growing them has been the maintenance of humidity in the dry climate of Hemet.

After dividing a few, I now have 15 plants. Four of them are in bloom now as I write this, June 2005.

(Oops, I just found some beautiful ones at Home Depot so now I have 20, plus a division, so 21 if it survives. Pictures soon.)
