Puppies -vs- Adult Dogs

Question: Do I want an adult dog or a puppy?

This is a common question, and a very good question, that we frequently receive here at Chelsia Labradors. While it is true that most people that contact us are indeed in  the market for a young puppy, often times upon further discussion it is found that an adult dog may better suit a person's or family's needs. No one, however, could possibly successfully argue against the fact that there is "nothing on this earth" more cuter than a Labrador puppy---------there just isn't! However, along with that cuteness comes a tremendous responsibility of raising a puppy, feeding him, playing with him, watching him to be sure he doesn't get into any trouble or hurt himself.

I suppose the easiest way to make an analogy is to relate to the rearing of children. You parents out there can reflect back and remember that your baby needed you for everything. You, as a proud and loving parent gladly took on the responsibility, because you chose to and you loved your baby. As your baby grew to be a youth and then a young adult, the constant demand on your time lessened. While your child still needed and wanted your unconditional love, he also became more self sufficient. The same is true with a puppy versus having and adult dog. Due to your lifestyle, an adult dog may be a better answer.

Why does Chelsia Labradors have adult dogs available?

We here at Chelsia Labradors are in this business because we absolutely love Labradors and we love to compete in AKC sanctioned Conformation Shows. Therefore, when we have a litter of puppies, it is quite common for us to keep two or three of them as possible show dogs. At 8 weeks of age it is not always an easy task for us to pick our next champion so we keep a few here to see how they turn out. When these darling babies grow up and our final choice is made, we place the remainders. Just because you weren't selected "Topgun" of your class, doesn't mean you can't fly a plane well.

Is there something wrong with the adult dogs that we sell?

Absolutely NOT!! We are VERY PICKY about which does remain here as show dogs,PICKY, PICKY, PICKY!!!!!. We look at proper tail set, front and rear angulation, strong toplines, big solid heads and strong necks, locomotive movement, and that slightly arrogant temperament needed for the show ring. These are the things that we look for in a good show dog, but are not real issues for the prospective Labrador owner that wants a dog to be a member of their family, play with the kids, go hunting or swimming in the lake, and spend a quiet evening laying by the fireplace. Our adult dogs, that come with the same Health Guarantee as our puppies, will easily satisfy your families desire. All they will ask of you is a little food and lot of love.

You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks:

This is the last I have to say about adult dogs, but that old adage is absolutely ridiculous. Labrador Retrievers at any age are VERY EASY TO TRAIN so regardless of what you read DON'T BELIEVE IT-------------IT'S NOT TRUE!
