LASIK,
or Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis, is an outpatient procedure which uses a beam of laser
light to reshape the front of the eye. Because it is performed beneath a layer
of protective tissue, the recovery time for LASIK is remarkably brief, and there is a
lower risk of certain side effects such as corneal haze and postoperative discomfort.
Vision usually returns within a couple of days after the surgery.
The laser used in the procedure is extremely precise, allowing the surgeon to remove
corneal tissue with remarkable accuracy. When the curvature of the cornea is changed
in refractive surgery, images are able to focus more sharply on the back of the eye, and a
patient's dependence on glasses or contact lenses is reduced or even eliminated.
LASIK is not currently able to correct every prescription. Those patients whose
prescriptions are within the treatable range need to undergo comprehensive testing prior
to surgery in order to insure the best visual outcome. If you are interested in
finding out whether this procedure is an option for you, feel free to give us a call to

the FDA's website about LASIK.
