Message All
disciples of Trinity need to re-examine their commitment to support Christ’s
ministry at Trinity. If contributions do not start to rise, the ministry at
Trinity will suffer. Prayerfully consider what you want Trinity’s ministry to
accomplish in 2008. Michael Kinsey Summer
Servers Schedule It’s time to prepare the servers schedule for June, July, and August. If you know of times when you will be gone this summer, please notify Cheryl Dieter by May 18 at cedieter@comcast.net or by phone at 242-0707. New
Member Classes Fall
2008 Our next New Member class will begin Sept. 14th. This group meets in room 103 from 9:15 – 10:25 AM. New members will be received on Nov. 2nd at 10:45 AM. If you are currently active in a Lutheran parish you may speak with a pastor about the information needed to complete a certificate of transfer. Trinity
Knitters All knitters are invited to attend the next meeting of this group Saturday, May 17 at 10 am in room l03. Youth Fundraising Due to the increased number
of adults and youth having gone to Quake, and going to Zone and the Summer
Mission Trip and the decrease in the 2008 youth budget, the youth have
started their fundraising campaign and will continue it throughout the year. The youth are having a “Gas
Can Fundraiser” to raise money to pay for the gas on the drive to and
from Denver, this year’s site for the Summer Mission Trip. Trinity will have
three vehicles traveling to Denver and they will use around $1,440 of
gas. There is a red gas can with a container beside it for all cheerful
givers of the congregation to support the youth. There is also a chart
showing the progress of the fundraiser, with a car traveling on the chart,
going to Denver and back. We sure hope we get enough funds to get back to
Valpo! The youth need the support
of everyone at Trinity to fund Captive Free during VBS, their exciting and
faith building trips away from Trinity, and the regular events here at
Trinity. Please support this wonderful youth ministry! Vacation Bible School June 23rd - June 27th Join us in the Rainforest
Adventure theme for Vacation Bible School this summer! Please register before
June 22 online at http://mysite.verizon.net/res6myvi/. Please consider
volunteering. Volunteers may register online as well. Adult help is welcomed
and needed with an age group, station, clean up, set
up, decorations and many more things that we can come up with to get you
involved!! Invite as many people as you can think of, it is for everyone. Questions
or comments: Contact Amy Osterhout at amylinn@mac.com or 531-2302 or Teresa Hadden at tshepherd26@live.com. Captive Free Housing Hosts June 22nd -June 27th Captive Free Midwest group
will be performing this year at Vacation Bible School! The group is in need
of housing for 3 women and 3 men. Contact Amy Osterhout
at 531-2302 or amylinn@mac.com or Teresa Hadden at tshepherd26@live.com. Housing hosts are needed from
Friday June 20th thru Friday June 27th. Captive Free: Youth Encounter
Fundraising Captive Free Midwest group
will be performing at Vacation Bible School: Rainforest Adventure this year,
and we are in need of raising the funds for them to attend and lead us in the
music portion of VBS. They will be doing the opening celebration daily and
the VBS closing celebration with a concert for all of VBS and Trinity. Please
give to this wonderful group that will be doing a wonderful service to
Trinity members. Questions or comments regarding Captive Free, please contact
Amy Osterhout at 531-2302 or amylinn@mac.com or
Teresa Hadden at tshepherd26@live.com. The AMMONITE You are invited to the
presentation of an original play by Harlan Bjornstad,
presented by Trinity Players— Friday, May 16th, 7:00 PM Saturday, May 17th, 2:00 PM Trinity Lutheran Church,
Fellowship Hall, 201 N. Washington Street.
Admission is free. A freewill offering will be taken to offset
production costs. The performance is not part
of a worship service. The Ammonite
is a full five-act stage play (105 minutes). This is the story of — “A fossil that rightfully
belongs to a young man named Will Owens turns up in the home of Warren
Haskins, champion cheapskate of the town of Sandymount.
Will already despises Warren for his miserly ways; Warren already considers
Will a self-righteous meddler. No wonder then, that when Warren announces his
intent to sell the fossil, the two men’s smoldering animosity flares into
open conflict. Aided by the ghost of Warren’s dead wife Betty, Will’s older
sister Clarissa, her precocious daughter Vera, and even the river that runs
through Sandymount, the two begin a difficult
journey toward reconciliation and renewal.” Roles to Fill For Trinity House Trinity
Lutheran Church has a proud tradition of building very affordable housing for
needy families. Over the past 16 years, Trinity has built five
houses and now we are about to begin the 6th Trinity House. There
are several roles which need to be filled before we can be fully
organized. Please study this list and see if you are willing to
fill one of these roles:
Please contact Larry Bass (Larry.Bass@Valpo.edu) or
Pat Cummings (cummingsp9@hotmail.com)
of the Social ministry Committee if you can fill one of these roles. Gifts
of Hope Program Mother’s
and Father’s Day A long-standing Trinity
stewardship tradition continues this May and June with GIFTS OF HOPE. Sales take place before services today and
again on June 8 and June 15. The GIFTS
OF HOPE program offers Trinity members and friends an opportunity to purchase
a meaningful and lasting gift for a beloved family member or friend. The gift giver donates any amount of money
in the name of the gift receiving person.
The gift giver then receives an attractively designed, hand-made card
to present to the recipient. The card
explains the gift given in the bearer’s name. This year’s gifts for both
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will benefit The Moraine House in Valparaiso.
Moraine House was originally founded in 1976 in Valparaiso, Indiana as a
halfway House for recovering alcoholics. Today, Moraine House has broadened
its scope to cover people recovering from all chemical dependencies. Well
over 90% of Moraine House residents come from treatment centers in Lake,
Porter, and LaPorte counties in Indiana and Cook
County in Illinois. Celebrate a mom or a dad by
supporting a worthwhile organization that offers caring stewardship in our
community. Continue Trinity Lutheran
Church’s tradition of outreach stewardship by giving a Gift of Hope. Food Pantry The pantry served 288
families (an average of 32 for each day open) which provided food for 798
people (89 per day). Donations of plastic grocery-type
bags will be appreciated - especially if stores begin to discontinue
their use for shoppers. Brown paper grocery bags are always welcome,
too. As the items requested from
each church for the 'summer kits' come in during May, bags will be organized
and packed for giving during June, July and August. It is hoped that
extra eggs, milk and cheese can be included with the kits - provided money is
available for these extras. Giving to the pantry - in
general - is down. All groups and organizations are finding this
situation to be true. It is hoped that the pattern formed
during the 25 years of this pantry's serving will hold true: no one has
ever been turned away for lack of food at the pantry. Thank the Lord
and all those who so generously donate! As always one of
us can be reached for questions about the pantry and pantry service.
