Over the years I have noticed
that young percussion students are not always given the attention they need in band class to develop the proper skills and
become proficient. Even the most dedicated middle school or high school band director finds
it hard to provide the kinds of performance and learning opportunities that percussionists need. Consequently,
too many percussion students do not go on to become accomplished musicians. The
lack of opportunity to play in groups where percussion instruments are featured is also a factor. The need for percussion students to have more opportunities to play and perform is what motivated
me to start the Manassas Dale City Drum Studio.
I believe that the key to success
is having fun and lots of opportunities to play and rehearse. Especially important
are occasions to perform solos, duets, trios, and in ensembles with other percussionists.
My goal is to create many opportunities for local percussion students to perform together in groups in front of audiences
at concerts and recitals.
Many accomplished percussionists
in our area are willing to share their knowledge and talent with young students in clinics and performances. My goal is to bring percussion students and seasoned percussionists together for teaching and learning
opportunities.
