Hp is up !!Jetted down, possibly more with a little more tuning

Here are some pictures from the latest install!
My rear end will need some attention. The Posi trac is
just about worn out! Well Posi Trac never existed,
Peg-Leg,open Differential and 3:55 gears. No wonder my traction stinks!

Here is my new Rear differential Cover I painted
dsc001161.jpg
after I installed the Lock Rite Powertrax unit. Running 3.55 gears.

The Powertrax should have only taken 2 hours tops, however my C-clips would not come out as planned.
Also installing the springs into the Locker and holding the unit from moving around was a trick and that held up things for me. My Install took almost 5 leisurely hours. The next one should only take me 2  hours tops but be warned old rear ends, have lots of baggage and something unexpected can happen and usually will!!! I took it for a drive and it works very well for me. I dont hear any clicking however my exhaust is fairly noisey,, supressing clicks. Both tires Lock up and traction has improved 100%,for sure. Will see how long it will hold up !
Going to the Drag strip and see what kind of performance I can expect.I will still have to baby it out of the chute cause my tires are street radials and just do not hook well. A Bodies just dont track good in stock form.
Update 10/21
Well we ran the car with drag radials and 8.79 was the fastest in the 1/8. I ran it 4 times and improved every time.
I still think more potential is there because I did not heat up the drag tires and air pressure was to high 30 psi. . I have power  and lowered the rear suspension. Can you say stock!! Keep the car as low as you can. Also 4 speeds are tricky. I'm still learning the secrets! This much Torque is hard to control of the line.I think I'm getting this thing dialed in and I still think 12's in the 1/4 mile is very attainable!

Took the rear coil springs out and replaced with 71 malibu
springs. Lowered the rear 2 inches. Wheel Hoop is no more.
I can hammer the throttle now. It is ground pounding time!!

402 Good Motor but more power is needed

Notice the steel Fuel Line,It is home made.

It took a few hours and the line fits!

Notice the 496 Stealth look. The valve covers are a give away, but I might run the old stock covers and double up the gasket to clear the Roller Rockers. Anyway still looks stock, though!!

Update
Well we took it to 1/8 mile track and ran a few passes last month and the best it did was 9.1 at 83 mile an hour.My 60 foot times were 2.2 to 2.1 sec. .Not to good!
On street tires and posi  not working . So the car is severely traction limited right now.It spun the tires in every gear down the track. So I think this car can improve  dramatically with rear end modifications. In the 1/4 this car will do fairly well since the trap speed was climbing towards the end of the track. Anyway I had a good time!!
When I get my rear- end fixed I will take it down again and see what improvements I can expect. I wish we had a 1/4 mile track near by though!!
Latest update 5/7/05
Rear end is powertraxed,
Carburation was 800cfm Quadrajet,now a 850 cfm Speed Demon.
No 1/4 time slips yet!! Hopefully that will be in the near future!
Update! 10/22/05
Car improved in the 1/8 down to 8.79. Drag radials and wrong spring height. Wheel hoop still a problem.
Have changed rearcoil spring lowered center rear, wheel
hoop is gone. Will try and see if I can hammer throttle coming off the line with Drag radials. Times will hopefully be down some.
1/4 mile time still not attempted!
Yup,
I ran it down the 1/4 mile track and it ran 13.06 at 106 with a 2.1 -0 to60ft.
I ran the 1/8 at 8.20 at 86 on a 1/8 mile track.
My problem is getting this thing out of the whole. It just spins and I dont want to break anything so I'm carefull. However I just started tunning this
engine and realized my total timing was way to retarded.
So will see in the future if I can get more out of this combo.
But my 1/8 times suggest a mid 12 is very reasonable. So I will try for that and maybe use slicks. Stay tuned!
