Introduction:

Who am I?

My name is Peter Jonkhoff, born in Indonesia in 1934. My father was Ds Franciscus Josephus Jonkhof. After World War II, we repatriated to Holland from Indonesia in 1946. After my military service I married a Dutch girl Willy Van der Jagt and immigrated to Canada in 1957, then to California in 1963 where I retired in 1995.

Inheriting the "Family Jonkhoff Book"from my aunt, 1 of 5 typed by Haike Jonkhoff in 1925, I became interested in the Jonkhof(f) history and genealogy of the family.

After meeting my cousin Dr. Haiko Jonkhoff, who also possessed a copy, 1 of the 5, of the "Jonkhoff Family Book", I  started with accumulating the data from various sources such as the internet and entering the data in a database obtained from Family Tree Maker company (Genealogy.com), that allowed me to produce the book on the web so we all can obtain a copy for those family members that are interested.

The main purpose of the creation of "The combined International Genealogy of Sicke and Hindrik Jans Jonkhoff", is to preserve the history of the Family Jonkhoff and utilize the technology to maintain it. This writing is in English since the Jonkhoffs are spread around the world and some most likely do not master the Dutch language.

The two authors that contributed the bulk of the ancestry of the Jonkhoffs, Haike (I925) and Johannus Hendricks Jonkhoff (1985), each dealt with their respective branches of the Jonkhoff Family tree: the SICKE branch (ca 1650) and HlNDRIK JANS branch (ca 1750) of the Jonkhoffs.

The only thing that they had in common, is that they both were "turf - schippers", peat moss skippers. The peat moss was used as primary fuel for cooking and heating. They came from the same area, east Groningen and northwest Germany, rich in peat moss created as a result of prehistoric swamps.

The connection between Sicke and Hindrik Jans is as of this writing, unknown., but it is assumed, that there is a missing link and hope in the future to make the connection.

Please get in touch and let me know what you think of the Book.
