Open House was wonderful! I enjoyed getting to meet so many of you. Again, we are a TEAM devoted to helping
your child have a successful academic year. Lets keep in touch!
PROGRESS REPORTS were mailed out on Friday or Saturday, September 13th. If you child received a progress report,
it is because he/she did not complete the assigned homework.
Help is needed.
Because of the budget cutbacks, some of the items we use to supply to our students
will no longer be available. For instance, tissues for runny noses will not be
purchased out of the school budget; so I am asking that students bring in a box of tissue for the classroom. If each student would bring in one box of tissue, all four of the teachers on our team would have sufficient
tissue to get us through the pollen, cold and flu seasons. In addition, each
box of tissue will earn extra social studies participation points for the donating student. Thank
you in advance for helping us out in this way. The use of paper towel on a sore
runny nose is something we want to avoid!
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY!
If you have an e-mail account and would send me a short "hello" note, you could earn your child 5 points of extra credit.
Those who sent the e-mails the first week of school earned 10 points of extra credit for their children, and need
NOT send another e-mail.
Letters which outline the scope of this class, the homework and Mrs. Korte's grading policies were sent home with students
on the first day of school - August 13, 2008. Parents and or students should keep this letter as a reference; however, the
form sent with the behavior management plan does need to be completed and returned to Mrs. Korte as soon as possible.
TEXTBOOK INFORMATION
In eighth grade social studies we will
be studying United States history from discovery through 1914. Our primary text is Creating America (McDougal Littell, 2006).
Your student will be bringing a copy of the text home with him/her on Thursday, August 14, 2008. This book
needs to be covered. Since these are relatively new books, any additional damage will result in a fine when the book is returned
in the spring. The textbook should be kept in an accessible safe, dry place at home, since we will have a classroom
set to use at school. Likewise, if your child damages the classroom text, he/she will be fined for that damage.
When textbook damage is found, the last student to have had custody of that textbook will be held responsible for the damage,
so every student is encouraged to report any damage to the textbook in his/her custody. A letter to the student’s
parent will be generated, informing the parent of the fine, and all fines will be paid in the front office so that a receipt
for payment can be generated.
