My "Henrietta Maria" Dress

This dress is a sort of copy of one that Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles I, wears in one of her many portraits. The original was a green satin with pearls on the sleeves, front stomacher, skirt front and skirt hem.  I made mine out of grey taffeta and didn't pearl the hem (I was getting low on pearls).  This dress was made entirely out of my "fabric stash".  I'd had the taffeta for about 10 years, the pearls I bought in bulk at the L.A. garment district at a shop going out of business, the lace around the color is leftover from my wedding dress, and the ruffs on the sleeves were made from silk organza that had been my wedding veil.  The chemise, which you can't see, was made from a silk drapery scarf I bought at TJ Maxx.

My Cavalier - full length

This picture was taken the night I finished putting this dress together.

I was so excited when I got this dress finished in time for the event I'd planned it for, I had my husband take a picture of me in it that night.

This is a picture of me in the dress at the Black Rose Ball. This event was held in honor of the Right Noble Company of Clothiers of Caid's 20th Anniversary.

My Harry Potter Robe

This is my Hogwart's student's robe

This is the robe I made for our annual Harry Potter party, hosted by my wonderful friends Rae and Renata.  Since all the guests are sorted into a Hogwart's house at their first party, I was sorted into Slytherin (a case of typecasting by the Sorting Hat if I ever saw one).  I first attended the party in 2003, so for last year's party (which is held near Halloween of course) I made myself a new robe to replace the cheesy one I'd made the year before.  This one is made of a nice wool jersey.  Rae had ordered House badges so I have one on the front of the robe.  I didn't put the hood on the robe, though (I thought it would be somewhat annoying).  In 2004, we did the "Goblet of Fire" and tournament of Champions - I was Slytherin's champion (we had the houses compete against each other since we didn't have any other wizardry schools to compete against).  In our Hogwart's, Slytherin won the Tournament of Champions (and I'm still amazed that I beat my friend Bruce, who was Gryffindor's champion and IS Harry Potter).

The homemade frogs are made from a black leather elbow patch bought at the fabric store, and covered buttons which are covered in a black cotton.

Me and Don at Gasfitters, 1989

Myself and my husband at a local event.

This is myself and my husband Don at a local historical event, the Gasfitter's Ball.  This is from about 1999, because I can't find more recent pictures of us on this computer.  I'm wearing a late 1890s dress made in a shot blue silk dupioni, Don is wearing a tux (rented then, he's since bought one).
