Black Taylor of Lochaber's Dolphin 1989
brynleydolphin.jpg

This scroll is for Black Taylor of Lochaber's Dolphin, which I did in 1989. Again, this was a copy of a flemish style of scroll, but I never really liked the results. Gouache on rag paper.

The scroll below is Agnes of Ilford's AoA scroll, which I had donated as a prize for some event (I think one of the early Potrero Wars when it was still a kingdom fundraiser). The colors on this one always seemed off to me - too Easter eggish. But the bar and ivy style came out nicely.

Adrian Buchanan's Ducal Scroll 1985
adrianduke.jpg

The scroll above was my first attempt at a peerage scroll, from 1985. It's a Patent of Arms for Duke Adrian Buchanon. I tried the checked background pattern again, but I don't like this scroll as much as the one I did for Black Taylor of Lochaber's Leaf of Merit, because now I know that the color combination would never have been used in period. Gouache and metallic ink on rag paper.

The scroll below is Richard of Castlenorth's Knight scroll, done in 1986. I really like this scroll and I used a period exemplar, although now I can't find which manuscript this blue and gold themed bar and vine style came from. Gouache and metallic ink on rag paper.

Avery of Kempsford's Count Scroll 1987

I liked the way Richard's knight scroll came out so much that I decided to use the same exemplar to do Avery of Kempsford's countal scroll in 1987. This scroll includes a book curse in the gold "bar" design, which was copied from the exemplar. I really wish I could find what book I copied these two scrolls out of again.

The scroll below is Keradwc an Cai's Court Barony scroll, which I did for him sometime in 1986 or 1987. This scroll is done entirely in white ink and white paint, on black mat board.

Stephen de Huyn's Crescent Sword 1988
stephencrescentsword.jpg

The scroll above is Stephen de Huyn's Crescent Sword scroll, which I think I did in 1988. The horse was blown up from a very small line drawing that was in Time Life's "Enchanted World" series. Gouache on rag paper.

The scroll below is Eleanor of Almaden's Award of Arms scroll, probably my firs full blown attempt at doing bar and ivy scrolls. This scroll seemed to take forever to finish, since I wasn't real happy with the way it was turning out (although now I don't remember why). Gouache and metallic ink on rag paper.

Xena Baxter Wynthorpe's Harp 1987
xenaharp.jpg

The scroll above is Xena Baxter Wynthorpe's Harp Argent scroll, which was done around 1987 or 1988. When she first got this she wondered where the harps were (as it is usual to include it in the design somewhere), before she realized they made up part of the white work in the initial capital.
Gouache on rag paper.

The scroll below was a "quickie" project that I did for our annual Make-a-Wish tournament. This was for our guest child to remember the day by. He was a big Robin Hood fan, so I went with a Robin Hood themed scroll. Gouache on rag paper.
