This scroll was done as a private commission for someone I've never met in person, just corresponded with via email.
Baer had received a similar piece many years ago from the guards at the Tower of London, after doing some picture framing
for them. But over the years, the original was destroyed and he'd wanted a replacement for it. Baer sent me a
sketch of what he had in mind, and I kind of filled in the blanks for him. This scroll was done on vellum, using Winsor
Newton gouache for the paint and gold leaf on the helmet. It's very hard in my opinion to do a scroll where someone
has such a strong notion of how they want it to look in the end, but I think Baer was pleased with the results. For
you SCA types, I did NOT come up with the heraldry on this scroll so please, don't point out to me what's wrong with it.
It's what Baer wanted, so that's what he got.

My apologies for the picture being a little dark but for some reason that's the way it came out, even with
the flash turned on. I started this scroll in January of 2004, and finished it in December 2004. It's not that
it took that long to draw and paint it, it's just I didn't work on it much. The dabs of paint you see in the right side
of the scroll were cut off before I sent it to him (I made the scroll oversized as I thought I'd draw it out bigger, but it
didn't work out that way). The mantling is in red and white with blue "piping" around the edges rather than outlining
it in black ink. Again, that's what was requested. I kind of like it for an effect.
