This is my 1878s bustle dress. I made this for a class in 1999. It was pretty much 5 months of intense sewing. I also had to make the underwear (chemisette, petticoats, and I had the corset) as well. This dress was made primarily from a vintage sari I bought at a swap meet (the metallic embroidery at the edges tests at 10K). The sari was about 6 yards of fabric. It also took 11 yards of pale green silk dupioni, and 5 yards of pale yellow dupioni. I didn't count how much lining it took (it's fully lined). It also took numerous yards of 3 different trims, one with tassels used on the bottom edge of the front overskirt, a similar one used without tassles on the back of the overskirt and on the bodice and sleeves, and a yellow trim used on the tops of the ruffles. The ruffles in the skirt were hand pleated from 45 yards of length to get 15 yards of ruffled pleats. I used almost all of it.
