This is another late 1870s bustle dress I made, although this one is more of an "evening" dress than a dinner dress like the green silk one. This one was also made out of mostly cottons, so it doesn't need to be dry cleaned. Again, it was very fabric intensive. I made it out of black cotton velveteen for the bodice and the top of the back overskirt (not shown - I don't have a picture of it yet). The plaid is a cotton/poly plaid. I bought the red/white/black striped velvet ribbon at the same time as the plaid and still have a ton of it left, so this dress may get more decoration eventually. The red and white boullion trim I bought later, along with some black lace for the bodice. The ruffle on this dress was made using a ruffler attachment on my sewing machine. The eventual plan is to make a "day" bodice for this skirt as well, although since I haven't done so in several years I probably never will.

This is my black and red fishtail bustle.

This is an okay shot of this dress, although I really think that Rise's dress looks better in this picture.

Another picture of this dress.

This was taken at the Gasfitter's Ball.

A better picture of this dress, from the Gasfitter's Ball. Although I made this dress a couple of years after the green bustle dress, I wore it to Gasfitter's first.

My Red Brocade Bustle

For Gasfitters in 2003

This bustle dress I made for the Gasfitters Ball in 2003.  While I like the color combination, I'm not real thrilled with how it turned out.  I think the skirt front looks odd and I've never been real happy about the fit on the bodice and I may get around to refitting it one of these days.

This is a shot of just the back of the underskirt of the bustle dress (the fishtail).  I pleated some red silk to act as sort of a dust ruffle, and to show it off embattled the top part of the skirt that it was attached to.  I like the effect.
