In addition to being something of a costuming junkie, I've always been a collector (or a Pack Rat, as my mother calls
it). About 5 years ago, I decided to get a treadle sewing machine that I owned operating again, after going through
a period of bad electrical problems at home. Naturally, the electric problems came up in the middle of a large sewing
project.
While looking around on the web for information, I came across the ISMACS website for sewing machine collectors.
Someone there referred me to Treadle On, since I was intent on sewing with this treadle rather than looking at it. The
rest, as they say, is history. I now have about 15 sewing machines, some electric, most of them treadles or handcranks.
Some I've used, some I haven't used, some are still "in process" to be restored, but all of them I love. Since
Treadle On is full of quilters too, I've gotten interested in doing some of that but haven't really tackled any projects beyond
the tablecloth displayed with the Singer 27. My eventual plan for some of the machines such as the Singer 27 and the
hemstitcher is to make an Edwardian lingerie style dress on them using only people power, like they would have in 1906.
