I have an inspiring story to share with you, of how the name  derived from that.  There was a missionary that had been slain by the Indians and as the

Missionary was dying, he looked up and saw the blood red sunset and

cried out with his last breath that it was the " Sangre de Christo"!

The entire valley is so very inspiring, if you travel just a few miles away to the little town of San Luis you can experience another inspiring site.  There is a mesa on the outskirts of town. As you walk up this Mesa, you will see 15 life size statues of the depiction of the Stations of the Cross. The Passion of our Jesus Christ leading up to his crucifixsion and then the most amazing site of a life size statue of his resurrection. The Sculpturer is a local artist by the name of Hurberto Maestes. I feel that he and Mel Gibson had a lot in common in the way they both potrayed the agony that our Dear Lord endured.

You will have your choice of a homesite , that may have it's own pinon

nut orchard, which is a delicacy and quite expensive to buy. Then again, there are other home sites that are surrounded with very tall Ponderosa pine , Spruce, Aspen or Cottonwood and Pinon.
