North Chester Baptist Church, constructed in 1898

Started as a branch of the Free Will Baptist Church in Lisbon, the congregation of the North Chester Baptist Church first met in the Porter School building in 1879.  The church’s status changed from that of a mission church to a separate and independent church on May 12, 1881.  In 1881, the membership of the North Chester Baptist Church was comprised of eighteen families.

Rev. George Howard became the first pastor.  The congregation erected the church building in 1898.  The church is located on the corner of Truman Street and 16th Avenue.  In 1963, the congregation added a parsonage north of the church on 16th Avenue.  The construction of Sunday School rooms began in July, 1971, with a dedication service being held in February, 1975.
