The first post office in Chester Township
was established in Pintler’s Corners, opening, to serve the residents in the village and surrounding area, on December 30, 1847. The name was changed
to Lisbon on October 21, 1859.
The village of Lisbon
occupied the area on both the east and west sides of the intersection of Kenowa Avenue
and Coolidge Street. Because of Lisbon’s location on the township and county line, the post office
moved between Kent and Ottawa counties at least five times. The post office was
finally closed in 1925.
