Chief Instructor Chris Wong

Sensei Chris Wong, 4th Dan, started aikido in 1985 in Los Angeles with the late Kensho Furuya. She studied under the late Mitsunari Kanai Shihan and Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan. After moving to Santa Barbara in 1998, she studied with the founders of Aikido of Santa Barbara, Geraldine Tremblay and Bill Staub.

She continues to study under Yamada Shihan and attends seminars throughout the world. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the USAF.

Geraldine Tremblay, 6th Dan and Bill Staub, 6th Dan
started Aikido of Santa Barbara in 1987. Sensei Tremblay started her training in the 1970s in Montreal before moving to San Diego and training closely with Chiba Sensei. Sensei Staub started his training with the late Kanai Sensei and after moving to San Diego, with Chiba Sensei.

They both continue to train under Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei. Since moving to Hawaii, they have opened Waianae Coast Aikido and make frequent visits back to Santa Barbara.


Arturo Peal


Arturo Peal is in charge of Aikido of Santa Barbara’s children’s program and a senior instructor.

Arturo began studying Aikido in 1984 in Seattle.  He ran the children’s Aikido program at the Seattle School of Aikido for four years.  He holds a third degree black belt in Aikido from Yamada Shihan.  He also practices Craniosacral Therapy and is a licensed acupuncturist, www.bodystudies.com
