Iredell House was started in 1990 by a group of students of Stanley Hauerwas who wanted to try living in a real community rather than just talking about community. Since then, a half dozen Christians (many have been students) have come together each year to live in an intentional community. What makes this sort of community different from, say, a dorm or fraternity, is that the members covenant with each other to meet together regularly, to worship together, to struggle through problems together, and generally to participate in the life of the community.
