LONG BEACH TOUR DESCRIPTIONS

NEW!!! - CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL We have been receiving requests for a trip to the Crystal Cathedral, which is not on the original registration form.  Bestway would like to accommodate these requests by offering to take people to the 6:00 pm service (widely recognized as the best service) on Sunday, 8/21/05, if we have at least 15 passengers.  At this time we have 12 passengers.  Pickup will be at 5:00 pm, and the round trip cost is $25.00 per person.  We will be offering this additional trip at our registration table when we hand out tickets for the pre-paid reservations.

DISNEYLAND What can we say?  Disneyland is really a collection of “lands”, each with its own set of fantastic realities. In the original park, there’s Adventureland where you board enormous Humvee-type vehicles for encounters with pyrotechnic, hair-raising experiences inspired by the Indiana Jones movie trilogy. In Tomorrowland a highlight is the Space Mountain roller coaster which hurtles you into complete darkness at frightening speed – you will scream long and loud! Of course, it’s not all high-tech, high-speed rides. For a gentler experience that captures true Disney magic, set sail on the subterranean cruise through the tawdry land of Pirates of the Caribbean. And all the classics are still there as well, from It’s a Small World to Frontierland with its Old West theme and Toon Town where Mickey and Minnie and all the other Disney characters make their homes. While the price may seem high, the current park admission is about $50 a person and parking $9.

  • J. PAUL GETTY MUSEUM – The J. Paul Getty Museum is a jewel in a city full of world-class museums. But is it an art museum, an architectural wonder, a collection of special gardens, or an extraordinary vista point? Oilman J. Paul Getty once said, “Money is like manure. You have to spread it around or it smells.” Getty had so much money that he couldn’t count it, and one of the ways he spread it around was to build the original J. Paul Getty Museum art collection and endow the Getty Trust which funds the museum today. See for yourself the entrancing architecture that houses the magnificent collections that are “The Getty”.

  • KNOTTS BERRY FARM – The year was 1920 when Walter and Cordelia Knott moved to the then-sleepy community of Buena Park, CA to farm 20 acres of rented land. Today, that land is part of 160-acre Knott’s Berry Farm, America’s first theme park and the 12th most visited amusement park in the country. Today those 160 acres are home to world class rides, unique family shows, and one of a kind attractions. At Knott’s you’ll experience GhostRider the world’s best wooden rollercoaster, Supreme Scream, 30-stories up, 3 seconds down and the high-octane thrill of Xcelerator, rated the world’s best launch coaster, sending riders 0-80 in 2.3 seconds. For a different type of thrill, stroll over to Camp Snoopy, home to the beloved PEANUTS gang.

Swords clash, axes ring, as one Knight seeks the title of Champion in a spectacle not witnessed for centuries. The splendor, the pageantry and the romance of a time long remembered come to life at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament.

  • CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL – The largest glass building in the world, the Cathedral was built by the Rev. Robert Schuller. Schuller started out in 1955 as pastor of California’s first “drive-in” church in Garden Grove. Yes, it was actually situated in an old drive-in movie theatre and Schuler preached from the roof of the concession stand. After significant success on the airwaves, Rev. Schuller opened the Crystal Cathedral in 1980. Made almost entirely of glass (and a spider web framework of white steel) the star-shaped cathedral is something to behold: over 400 feet long and 200 feet across, rising some 12 stories above the ground, with an angular, mirror-like exterior, its transparent, sun-lit interior features a giant television screen and an altar of rich marble. The church seats almost 3000 worshipers for Sunday services.
