History
When the alien Rikti launched
a full-scale invasion of Earth, nearly every hero from around the globe rose to meet the attack. In the bloody war that followed,
thousands of these heroes would die. Entire superhero teams fell in battle and many countries were left without their champions.
During the heroes' final counterattack alone, eight hundred heroes were slain. By the war's end, the world seemed bereft of
heroes. But not all were gone.
The so-called Surviving
Eight represent the best and brightest of the hero community to have survived the Rikti Invasion. All are well-respected
heroes and several have been battling villainy for decades. Now, they turn their attention to helping rebuild the City
of Heroes, and later the world. As survivors of the horrible alien onslaught, the Surviving Eight must also inspire
the next generation, leading by example and providing whatever help they can to fledgling crime fighters and would-be
heroes.
