History

On December 7th, 1941, Axis forces launched simultaneous sneak attacks on Pearl Harbor and Paragon City. Many heroes are credited with repelling the Nazi invasion of Paragon City, but Atlas was among the first on the scene. "Almost single-handedly, Atlas kept the German attackers from gaining a foothold past Independence Port. It cost him his life, but he held his ground until the Freedom Phalanx arrived."

Atlas' sacrifice inspired numerous other heroes to volunteer for the war effort. Dozens of these brave super soldiers flocked to the aid of the Freedom Phalanx, the Dawn Patrol, and other groups, helping to ensure the defeat of Axis villains such as the Storm Korps, the Fifth Column, and the Imperial Wind. Paragon City also honored Atlas through Atlas Park, which contains a huge statue of the fallen hero. " The statue of Atlas was dedicated by the Statesman himself in a ceremony christening the heart of Atlas Park."
