History
Talos, a hero the newspapers dubbed the “Terrific Titan,” came
to prominence during the 1950s by battling a host of “giant monstrosities” that threatened Paragon City.
Although he was considered one of the city’s most respected heroes, “a deep mystery surrounded his true identity.
Even more astonishing was his ability to vanish after battle. A profoundly enigmatic hero, journalists, historians and scholars
had only his cryptic utterances for clues to his origin: ‘For thousands of years, I have been a protector of humanity.’
The only certainty about Talos was his almost mystical connection to a young boy named Michael McVey. Whenever the youngster
was imperiled, Talos would appear to save the day.”
Unfortunately, Talos’ reign as Paragon
City’s largest champion could not last forever. Sometime in the 1960s, he
was seemingly destroyed in a battle with his arch-enemy, the serpentine Chimera. This final battle took place beneath the waters of Paragon City’s
bay and proved so devastating that it shook the city to its foundation. The clash ultimately tore “a giant rift in the
ocean floor from which earth and lava rose to form an island. Known today as Talos
Island, it is said that both Talos and the Chimera are still locked in mortal combat
within its stony embrace.”
In the years that followed Talos’ disappearance, the giant slowly faded
from public consciousness. Eventually, many in Paragon City
regarded the hero as an urban legend. His memory was not resurrected until the 1980s, when greedy developers began building
on the bizarre island created by Talos’ battle with Chimera. “As a publicity stunt, the real estate moguls even
agreed to name the island after the city’s mythic giant. An anonymous benefactor donated the huge statue, which now
stands several hundred yards from the island.”
Today, Talos’ legacy survives thanks to the island that bears his name
and the statue commemorating his heroic achievements. In fact, some believe that the statue itself somehow gives the island
good luck. Those who support this theory point to the fact that, during the Rikti War, the alien invaders did not attack the island. Unfortunately, any good luck supplied by the statue has not stopped violent
gang wars from taking place on the Talos Island:
currently, the Warriors are engaged in a feud with the mystical Tsoo for control of the Superadine drug trade. Whether Talos will someday reappear to stop the bloodshed remains unknown…
