History

Tommy Arcanus has been described as a “mystical sidekick turned occult expert” who eventually joined the Midnight Squad. In fact, given the era he was most active, it's likely that Tommy was one of the founding members of that group or joined shortly after the Midnight Squad began working alongside the Dream Doctor. Although he seemingly lacked any innate powers, he did use mystical paraphernalia to battle evil-doers.

During his adventures throughout the 1930s, Tommy “delved so deeply into the metaphysical…that his very being was affected.” This may have granted him additional powers, although that has not been confirmed. However, it is known that his daughter Tammy was born with a suite of magical powers as a result of Tommy's exposure to mystical energies.

Tommy Arcanus’ final fate has not been revealed. By the 1960s, Tammy Arcanus had taken her father’s place among the Midnight Squad but whether Tommy was killed in action or simply retired from the adventuring life remains a mystery. His daughter’s history is much more well-defined: She went on to become Numina and helped to repel the Rikti invasion. Currently, she serves Paragon City as a member of the so-called “Surviving Eight.”
