The Craptour SHT

I bought this car from a preacher in January 2007. Story was, his son drove the car which mysteriously died on the way to church one afternoon. It was at a local repair shop and the preacher could not afford to have it fixed. I inspected the car and found many problems. I made a fair offer that was turned down. I thought it had potential, made a second offer of $700... $200 more than I wanted to. Lets consider the extra a tithe to the church. This crappy car needs all the blessings it can get.

The plan was to drop the stock 2.5L V6 that has a spun rod bearing, and install a 3L with P&P'd SVT heads and cams built from left over parts.

The Craptour is alive! It started easily. It's running rich, but running well. Still a bunch of little bugs to work out before it's road worthy, and then it will need lots of data logging and tuning before it's perfect.

The Craptour is now my daily driver since I sold the '98 SHO. It gets strange looks wherever it goes.

Tuning continues to be a major hurdle. It gets better with each try. The engine is finally able to spin all the way to it's 7500rpm redline without misfiring due to running extremely rich. Not done yet, but getting closer every time.

The car was damaged by a tree limb blown down during a tornado. After much review, I've decided the car is not worth repairing. It's a big disappointment after spending so much time and money, but with the difficulties in tuning and new damage, I can't see any positive outcome. A friend offered a free 2002 Mercury Cougar with a blown engine to me, and I could not pass up the deal. Many of the parts invested in the Craptour will swap into the Cougar.
