From the brush of Milt Gross

Featuring the largest private collection of original drawings by the celebrated cartoonist and illustrator, Milt Gross!

Some time in 1951, Milt Gross sought out a well known Hollywood Production Company with a proposal to create a Television Series featuring a cartoon character that he had created. The series was tentatively to be called, "The Adventures of Pete the Pooch".

Each episode was to be a complete story, and the concept was that Milt should appear live on camera at the beginning of each episode, seated at his drawing board, while drawing the opening scene characters. Gradually the animation would take over and Milt would continue to narrate the story off camera, while providing the voices of all the characters.

After several conferences with the TV station and potential sponsors, a deal was struck and production began. The first two episodes "Dog House Daze" and "Pete's Girl" were completed, filmed and put in "cans". The third episode "Pete Goes Hunting" was nearly complete when Milt suddenly died of a heart attack.

The entire project had to be cancelled. No Milt, No Show! Consequently, the completed work was never "aired". For over forty years the project was stored in a film vault and lay forgotten.

When COLLECTOR'S GALLERY learned of the existance of this material we purchased all rights of ownership to the entire project. The very first thing we did was to have the 16mm film transfered to video tape. This was done by one of the best professional laboratorys in Hollywood. Following this still photographs were taken of each of the individual drawings (there were hundreds). All of the drawings were then cataloged. Files were made of the photographs with a file card giving the location of each drawing.

For the collector of vintage animation art:

Collector's Gallery offers a rare and unique opportunity to purchase both the video tape and some of the drawings that appear on screen in the tape. Since Milt is seen at the beginning drawing the characters, there is no possible doubt as to the authenticity of each and every drawing. Each drawing is truely a valuable collector's item and will appreciate even more with time. For information on how to purchase either the video or the drawings or both send an E-Mail. A Price List is available.
