"Thesis" was built by Bill Ingram of San Diego and launched in 1969. Bill was a Junior High School Industiral Arts
teacher. He built this beautiful boat as his Masters Thesis Project, rather than writing a paper. She is an excellent example
of Mr. Cross' early design work and evolution. The amas are hard chine, and the main hull is round bottom.
Bill and his wife lived aboard for five years before selling the boat to my parents in 1974. We moved aboard that summer
and my parents lived aboard for 32 years. She raced in the 1976 Transpac and won second place corrected time. The two of
them cruised Mexico several seasons and cruised the North and South Pacific for four years in the mid 1990's. The Pacific
trip culminated in 1996 in the Palau Islands and in particular the little village of Ollie. Our family had lived there from
1964 to 1966 and we enjoyed a 30 year reunion with our Palauan family.
"Thesis" is a stretched Cross 37, and had a plan design length of 39 feet. After the addition of a swim step
on the main hull transom, she is now over 40 feet long. She is built out of marine grade plywood with glass cloth on all
outside surfaces.
