This is the official home of the multihull design work of Norman A. Cross, N.A. His work, and its contribution in the evolution of modern multihull design, is arguably the greatest contribution by any single designer of multihull sailing craft to date. He designed Catamarans, both sail and power cats and sailing Trimarans which he was most known for. The first Cross 24 was designed in 1963, and the last design he worked on was his Cross 78R designed in the late 1980's.

Every design is available in modern printed form. Plans are available for purchase and more information is located below on this page. If there is a particular design you are interested in, contact us for pricing.

The Cross 18 is the smallest of the Norman A. Cross designs. He designed cruising and racing trimarans from 18' to 78'. He also designed several cruising catamarans. Most of his designs were developed for the amateur builder. In the mid 1980's Mr. Cross had in excess of 1,400 boats building or sailing. Hundreds of his boats are sailing the world's oceans today.

Study Plans:
Study Plan sets are available for current models. Sets include several construction drawings, sail plan and general layout drawings. Materails lists are included with Study Plan sets. The total number of drawings may vary for a design and most sets are priced at $25.00 and include postage for the Continental US and Canada. Contact me for a quote on study plans.

Reference Drawings:
"Current Designs" as well as "Classic Design" drawings are available for reference for a boat that you own and may be restoring or repairing. Pricing for Reference drawing sets are generally 50% off new constuction drawings. No materails lists or full size patterns are part of these plan sets.

I have been a multihull enthusiast since 1969. I have built two Cross 18s and sailed a Cross 26 and a Cross 39 off the coast of Southern California since 1971.

I hope you enjoy this site, and please share any photos of your boat or boats that you know of.

My introduction to multihulls was seeing a 58' catamaran named "Sea Smoke" tied up to the Long Beach Yacht Club guest dock. I was five years old, and captivated by the way she looked.

After my 6th grade year, my teacher invited my family to sail to Catalina Island on his Piver Nugget. At the time my father owned and Aqua Cat. Within a few months he bought a Cross 26 that we named "Alelai" (pictured on the "Information" page). "Alelai" is a Palauan word for the Plumaria flower. Thus began my appreciation for the design work of Norman A. Cross.
