Brian Chung
Brian Chung is Senior Vice President of Kawai America Corporation. He is a two-term president
of the Piano Manufacturers Association International, a former Chair of the Board of Trustees for MTNA Foundation, a past
member of the Board of Directors for NAMM and a 2004 MTNA Foundation Fellow. After receiving an undergraduate degree from
the University of Michigan, he studied piano and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) as a Rotary
Foundation Scholar. Returning to the States, he pursued jazz studies as the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment
of the Arts. After several years as a professional musician and private teacher, he completed an MBA at the Kellogg School
of Management at Northwestern University. With a diverse career that includes experience as a performer, arranger, educator, conference
speaker and music industry executive, Mr. Chung is devoted to the cause of advancing music participation across America.
Dennis Thurmond is Director of Keyboard
Studies at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. He was formerly the chairman
of the music synthesis department and class piano program at the Berklee College of Music and Teaching Fellow at the MIT Center
for Advanced Visual Studies. He is currently on the summer faculty at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands and
master class faculty at Shanghai and Dailan Conservatories. A classical and jazz pianist and keyboard synthesist,
his performance and technical background includes playing synthesizer for the Boston Pops, keyboards for the New York
Vocal Jazz Ensemble, arranging for the Gospel Review for Symphony Orchestra with Della Reese and Billy Preston,
and studio pianist for the television series Party of Five. He is a composer and technical consultant for the Music
Thru MIDI series and co-composer of the Jazz SophistiCat series for Alfred Publishing.
