PWSRA referees are invited to learn from the top USSF referees while attending a DC United match. After the match, DC United will host an instruction session at RFK Stadium to review events during the game and provide an opportunity to meet the match officials to discuss match incidents. Due to popularity of this event there is limited capacity for this date.

Cost: $20 per person.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW REFEREES

To become a referee you must register as a referee then select a clinic to attend.

To register as a referee go to the State Referee website then click on Online Registration. Select USSF Referee Registration and follow the on-screen commands. Quirky feature: Even though you are not in the database you must enter your name for it not to find you. After it does not locate you only then will you be prompted to add your personal information. You will be taken to a screen with the message: Match Not Found.

Then you can select "Register as a NEW referee." You will be prompted to create a password. After creating a password you will be taken to a screen to enter your information. (Skip the Affiliated Game Experience table.)

Once you pay the USSF fee ($45 for Grade 8, $40 for Grade 9) by credit card you will be registered. Only then can you select a clinic from the same site.

Find a clinic (New-8 or New-9) that fits your schedule and register. Select a class that you can make all instructional hours. Attend the course and have fun!

Please Note: You can only become a referee by registering to be a referee, paying the fee, selecting then attending a clinic.

GRADE 8 OR GRADE 9?

Our Recommendations: New-9 is ideal for a younger teen or older teen/adult who has not played soccer. A Grade 9 referee will be able to be a center or assistant referee on recreational matches at U-14 and below. A Grade 9 can also be an assistant referee on U-14 competitive (travel) matches.

New-8 is ideal for an older/teen or adult who has played soccer. A Grade 8 referee will be able to be a center or assistant referee on any match.

UNIFORM DONATION PROGRAM

Are you leaving refereeing? Are you a young ref and outgrowing your uniform? In either case, do you have uniform items that are no longer of use to you? If so, would you consider donating those items of excellent or good quality to our new referees? (Sorry, items that are in poor quality should not be used in matches any longer.) We offer a uniform donation program. At every meeting we have donated items that we provide to new refs for free. Flags, shorts, socks, jerseys --- we have them and need them. To receive items simply attend one of our meetings. If you have items you wish to donate please e-mail us.
