BUSH ADMINISTRATION REVEALS GIGANTIC CONSPIRACY TO CHANGE THE MEANING OF “STAY THE COURSE”

Extracted from the Menlo Park Well-Heeler

The Bush Administration in a startling announcement set forth a conspiracy of previously unknown proportions, intended to magnify misunderstanding and, indeed, undermine the English language.

In a rare news conference today Vice President Cheney set forth that “liberals, surrender wimps, Democrats and card-carrying ACLU members have misled the American public for years, now, in a concerted and coordinated effort to derogate, denigrate and belittle the English language for their own purposes.

“These left-wingers, unwilling to admit the clear and undisputed connections among Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, have resorted to the desperate measure of actually changing the meaning of our blessed American language so that the American people will vote for them. Actually, the change smacks of the English version of our language, which is another issue.

“Insidious forces within the power structure of the western power elite as well as the eastern power elite and probably the northern power elite, not including Ohio, a swing state, have changed the well-known meaning of the term, ‘stay the course', to ‘remain on track'." It is “Invidious," he says, "when everybody knows it means ‘keep doing the same thing, against all evidence, because you haven’t got a clue'."

The Republican-dominated Congress, according to House Majority Leader Tom Delay, can be “counted on to do its patriotic duty, and investigate through committee hearings and mighty speeches,” to reverse this unfortunate trend. “No stone shall remain unturned,” he said.

Meantime, National Security Agreeor Condoleezza Rice deplored changing the clear meaning of our language, saying, “when the President said I was taking over all responsibility for the post-war development activities in Iraq, he of course was using the term, ‘taking over all responsibility for the post-war development activities' in its more traditional sense, or ‘will sometimes hear about it if she keeps reading newspapers like she does.’”

Hm. Actually, They Seem to be Taking to it. Never Mind.
