County Supervisors Bravely Face Political Correctness

LOS ANGELES COUNTY TO REMOVE CROSS FROM SEAL Extracted from the County Employees’ Monthly

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has been under pressure by the American Civil Liberties Union to remove the cross from the depiction of the mission on its seal. The contention of the ACLU is that depicting a cross violates the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. In an act of incredible courage, dare I say bravado, the Board has elected to rearrange the old seal, depicted here, as follows:

The gold cross which rests on the Hollywood Bowl is gone, as offensive to somebody’s religion. One is reminded of the Taliban blowing up statues of Buddha. 2. The depiction of the goddess Pomona is exchanged, in order not to offend those who are not pagans, for a picture of what may be an Indian. Board Member Zev Yaroslavsky expressed concern that persons who were not Indians would be offended, so this was dropped. 3. A member of the public said that he was not Hindu, and that placing a cow on the seal was tantamount to forcing everybody in the room to become Hindu and worship a guy with skulls on his ass. 4. Another said that the drafting tools were a clear reference to the Freemasons, and not acceptable. No nonoffensive images were found, so the new seal is as follows:                       [Seal]
